Our travel logistics from the Airport and return are handled by the Rhodes University Conference Office on behalf of the Southern African Historical Society. We have talked to the shuttle service providers and they gave us a great discount. A list-serve has been created for SAHS delegates. This listserve will aid our communication with you regarding travel and other logistics.
For those who wish to utilise the services of the shuttles that we offer, please reply to the email that was sent to you via listserve and attach the form back to Ms. Xoli Mbuyephi who is our dedicated person in the Rhodes University Conference Office. She is contacted on firstname.lastname@example.org
For ease of travel, we encourage our travellers to use the Port Elizabeth airport as it is nearer than the East London one. Our shuttle service does not cover the East London Airport.
Rhodes University is in the Eastern Cape province, in a town called Makhanda, formerly Grahamstown. Makhanda/Grahamstown is about 120kms from Port Elizabeth, and is nearly 1000kms from Johannesburg. From East London, it is about 164kms. It is the heart of Eastern Cape tourism, with many historical monuments as well as an assortment of game reserves nearby - and of course very good beaches some 58-70kms away. Makhanda (Grahamstown) is off the well serviced N2 Highway, the road that connects Cape town and Durban. It is almost equidistant from Port Elizabeth and King Williamstown.
